Copy the complete designation

Retain prefixes, suffixes, punctuation and option codes. A short family name can omit seal, mounting or electrical options. Attach a legible label image when the designation is uncertain.

Distinguish identification from selection

An existing label helps identify an installed part. It does not by itself confirm that a different model is suitable. Keep your equipment design requirements available for any proposed change.

Set a line-level approval rule

Mark specified-model-only items clearly. Where an alternative can be considered, list the requirements it must satisfy. Any proposed substitution remains subject to your review and approval.

Resolve conflicting references

If the BOM, drawing and label show different references, identify which governs the request. Keep the conflict visible until clarified instead of silently replacing one reference.
